VEHICLE GUNFIGHTING

Gunfighting in and around vehicles

  • Course Length: 8 hours
  • Time: 9 AM to 5 PM
  • Place: Range 360. Please arrive by 0845.
  • Prerequisites: Pistol 1 REQUIRED (P2 Recommended but not required.)

(This course was previously known as Vehicle Counter-Ambush Tactics)

Considerations:

Vehicles are everywhere.

Around 80% of ALL police officers killed in the line of duty are killed IN THEIR VEHICLES.

Most of us spend a lot of time in and around vehicles, and it creates some special risks that we need to study and understand if we are to survive an armed encounter there.

There are a lot of questions when it comes to gunfighting in and around cars: Do bullets deflect differently when they hit a car than when they hit concrete? Do they deflect when they penetrate automotive glass? Is that deflection predictable? Do car doors stop bullets? Where is the best place to fight from? How do I dismount the car under fire?  How do I get injured people out of the car under fire? What's legal when it comes to cars and self-defense?

In Vehicle Gunfighting, you will:

  • Define and understand the unique problem set the vehicle environment presents.
  • Learn and practice various shooting techniques from inside, through, around, under, and into vehicles and their various parts and sections.
  • Define the various sections and "strong/weak" areas of vehicles.
  • Conduct live-fire tests on all parts of a vehicle.
  • Learn and practice dismounting vehicles under fire while returning accurate effective fire.
  • Learn and practice mounting vehicles under fire while returning accurate and effective fire.
  • Learn and practice fighting in and around vehicles with teammates.
  •  ...and much more!

Required Equipment:

  • Semi-Automatic pistol, holster, 3 magazines minimum.
  • A notepad and pen.
  • Eye protection/Ear protection. (Take this seriously. It gets loud in a car. Protect your hearing!)
  • Consider wearing (or bringing) something with sleeves.
  • Gloves you can shoot in.
  • 300 rounds of FMJ ammo.
  • 10 rounds of your Daily Carry ammo (Hollow points, or whatever you usually carry in the real world.)
  • Weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, drinks, lunch, etc.
    • Microwave/Refrigerator/Coffee Pot, etc. all supplied in the Schoolhouse. Consider bringing a lunch.

This course is taught by experienced and active executive protection agents, "active shooter" response instructors, tactical shooting instructors, and/or other professional protectors.
